Where the data comes from

Properties, coastlines, lakes, beaches and roads come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). We do not copy content from booking sites.

How we measure

We take the property’s building outline (or its position, when no outline is mapped) and measure the shortest distance to the shoreline. We then look at the straight line between the two: if a road or railway crosses it, the property cannot be “beachfront”, however close it is. Promenades, footpaths and the beach surface are shown for information.

When a booking site reports a position for the property more than 150 m from ours, we check it by hand. Every property is reviewed by a person before it is listed, and again whenever a new measurement changes its result.

What the badges mean

Verified beachfront
No road or railway in between, and the water is at most 50 m away — or up to 150 m across a mapped beach that starts within 20 m of the property.
Steps from the water
The water is at most 100 m away, but something (usually a road) lies in between, or it is just beyond the beachfront limits.
Short walk to the water
The water is at most 300 m away.

Anything further than 300 m is not listed, even if a booking site calls it beachfront.

How results are ordered

No property can pay to be listed or to rank higher. We earn a commission from booking sites when you book through our links (see the affiliate disclosure). Commissions never influence measurements, badges or ordering.

Prices

Prices come only from official partner programmes of the booking sites. They are cached for a few hours and may change; the booking site always shows the final price.
